New Business Officer
I have worked within the RBS Group for 19 years, the last 7 years at Coutts. I have been in my current role for about three years. Some of the activities I undertake include completing due diligence for new clients, completing credit searches, the transfer of accounts from other banks, hand holding the client through the account opening / transfer process and liaising with our Private Bankers.
What is a typical day like in your office?
I look after the new business requirements for all of the Coutts Regional offices, so each morning I receive the details of the new accounts that each Private Banker wishes to open. I review the new file, check the due diligence for each new client, ensure that we have everything we need, complete an equifax search, check the clients identity and generally make sure everything is in order.
Once completed, the files go to the New Business Team Managers for sign off. Once they are signed off, I make the accounts live in the banks systems and liaise with my colleagues to get the accounts physically opened. Once this is completed I initiate the welcome letter and arrange for this to be forwarded to the client along with their leather stationery. I also make welcome calls to clients, once they have received their welcome letters and account details to ensure they have everything they need. I also provide any further assistance that the client may require at this time, and advise them of the next steps in the account transfer process.
I also look after transferring the clients accounts from their current bankers, ensuring all regular payments have been set up correctly. When all parties are happy that all aspects of the transfer have been dealt with, I arrange for any balances on the old bank accounts to be transferred over to the new Coutts account.
I also liaise with Private Bankers on a regular basis to talk about the due diligence provided, to resolve any issues that may be outstanding and also on occasions to provide guidance about what we require. I also keep each Private Banker updated as to the progress of each account opening and transfer.
What do you like most about working for Coutts?
I enjoy having contact with clients and seeing through the end to end new account process for each new client joining Coutts, especially as I provide one of the first impressions of the Bank to the client. My role is quite varied and interesting and I enjoy the interaction within our team, the account opening team and the private bankers. There is a good team spirit here and line managers are supportive and always there if you have any questions. It is quite a sociable team and we enjoy activities together outside of work.
Coutts also provide a great flexible approach to working hours, providing the opportunity to work compressed hours, flexible and part-time hours. This works well for me as I have a child who I need to get to school in the morning. The management team here are supportive of career development and provide opportunities for progression on an individual basis.
